The Ultimate Update on the Halo World Championship
Introduction
The Halo World Championship 2023 (HWC2023) is the premier Halo e-sports tournament of the year. It features the best Halo Infinite teams from around the world competing for the title of World Champion and a share of the $1 million prize pool.
The HWC2023 will be held from October 13 to 15, 2023 at the Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle, Washington, USA. It will be the first time that the HWC has been held in Seattle since 2018.
The top twenty teams from North America, Europe, Mexico, and Oceania will qualify for the HWC2023. The teams will compete in a double-elimination tournament format, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the playoffs. The playoffs will be a single-elimination tournament, with the best-of-five grand finals on October 15th.
Halo World Championship 2023 Format
The Halo World Championship 2023 will feature a new format, with a Swiss Stage, and a Knockout Stage.
Swiss Stage:
- All 16 teams are placed into groups of four.
- Each team plays a best-of-one match against every other team in their group.
- The top two teams from each group advance to the Knockout Stage.
Knockout Stage:
- The eight teams that advanced from the Swiss Stage compete in a best-of five series.
- The winner of each series advances to the next round, until the two finalists are left.
- The two finalists then compete in a best-of-seven series to determine the World Champions.
Changes from Previous Formats:
The Swiss Stage is a new addition to the Halo World Championship format. In previous formats, the teams were divided into groups and played in a round-robin format. The top teams from each group would then advance to the playoffs.
The Swiss Stage is a more fair and competitive format, as it ensures that the best teams advance to the Knockout Stage regardless of their luck in the draw.

The top 8 teams from the HCS Fort Worth Major have already secured their spots at the HWC2023. The remaining 8 teams will qualify through the regional playoffs.
Halo World Championship 2023 Prize Pool
The Halo World Championship 2023, the major Halo Championship Series tournament, will distribute a total prize pool of $1,000,000 USD. The prize pool will be distributed as follows:
- 1st: $400,000
- 2nd: $220,000
- 3rd: $110,000
- 4th: $70,000
- 5th-6th: $45,000
